The Saucony Triumph ISO 2 and the Hoka One One Clifton 2 are both neutral cushioning running shoes that are known to be cushy.

The Hoka One One Clifton 2 comes with an almost completely seamless upper with just a couple of stitches running along the saddle.

It provides a good wrap around the midfoot but running shoe lab tests have shown that it is somewhat looser at the back and front of the shoe.

In addition, the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 comes with an external heel counter that craddles the heel to provide support at the back of the shoe and light welded-on overlays at the front for extra support and hold.

Running shoe lab tests show that the fit of the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 is overall closer to the foot than that of the Hoka One One Clifton 2.

It is the ISOFIT overlays and the external heel counter that allow the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 to provide you with a more secure fit than the Hoka One One Clifton 2.

Both the Hoka One One Clifton 2 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 are meant to provide plush heel-to-toe cushioning through their midsoles.

Unlike the previous version of the Saucony Triumph ISO 2, this version comes with an extra layer of cushioning just under the sockliner and as an insert in the heel, which allows the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 to up the amount of cushioning it provides.

This change is also noticeable in running shoe lab tests, which show that both running shoes are almost equally cushy in both the heel and the forefoot and for both men and women.

The Hoka One One Clifton 2 provides a maximum amount of cushioning in both the heel and the forefoot. This amount is hard to tip by other running shoes.

However, the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 does a good job by also coming close to the maximum amount of cushioning that can be provided.

It is only in the heel that a minor difference can be seen between the Hoka One One Clifton 2 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2, where the Hoka One One Clifton 2 provides just a tad more cushioning than the Saucony Triumph ISO 2.

But overall, both running shoes are very cushy running shoes and you should be able to get a very soft ride from either.

Note that while the midsole of the Hoka One One Clifton 2 may look thicker than that of the Saucony Triumph ISO 2, its just optical.

For women, the Hoka One One Clifton 2 has a slightly thicker heel than the Saucony Triumph ISO 2, but for men, the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 puts slightly more foam between you and the road.

Also note that the Hoka One One Clifton 2 has a fairly large heel-to-toe drop of 10.4 mm for women compared to 9.4 mm in the Saucony Triumph ISO 2. This should help take stress off the Achilles tendons of women.

The heel-to-toe drop is much less for men in the Hoka One One Clifton 2 – about 6.9 mm compared to 9.3 mm in the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 for men.

Both the Hoka One One Clifton 2 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 are not meant to provide stability and support, but they still come with a few stability features.

For example, the landing zone in the heel of the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 reduces impact and helps stabilize the foot for transitioning to toe-off thereafter. The amount of ground contact also helps to stabilize movement and adds to the smoothness of your ride.

The Hoka One One Clifton 2 provides full ground contact and just a tad more than the Saucony Triumph ISO 2. It also has a wide base, which helps increase the stability of the running shoe.

The Hoka One One Clifton 2 comes out of running shoe lab tests as being the more stable one. However, if you are a neutral runner, stability is not one of your biggest concerns.

The outsole of the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 looks different from that of the Hoka One One Clifton 2 mainly due to its flex grooves in the forefoot and the amount of rubber it has compared to the Hoka One One Clifton 2.

The Hoka One One Clifton 2 does not have much rubber under it. The durable rubber is only placed strategically in places that are expected to endure lots of friction. Less rubber keeps the shoe light but diminishes its durability.

Because both running shoes provide so much cushioning, they are expected to be somewhat stiff. Running shoe lab tests confirm this but the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 still displays a tiny bit more flexibility than the Hoka One One Clifton 2.

The women's version of the Hoka One One Clifton 2 weighs approximately 7.3 oz (207 grams) and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 for women weighs 8.6 oz (244 grams).

The men's versions of the shoes weigh 9.0 oz (255 grams) and 10.4 oz (295 grams), respectively, with the Hoka One One Clifton 2 being the lighter one.

If you are a neutral runner who is looking for a very cushy ride, you could get that from either the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 or the Hoka One One Clifton 2.

But if you want to add a bit more stability to your runs and have something that is lighter on your feet, then the Hoka One One Clifton 2 might be a better option than the Saucony Triumph ISO 2.
