Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS vs. Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 review
Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS is perfect for excessive overpronators who are a bit on the heavy side and are looking for superior motion control and a comfortable upper that locks the foot down and keeps it in place. Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 carries on this legacy with some changes and improvements. Read this review that compares these two Saucony motion control running shoes.
In two previous articles I reviewed the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 motion control running shoes for women.
The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 is the new and improved version of the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS, which is a maximum stability motion control running shoe from Saucony.
Since these two running shoes are the same model, they should not differ too much from each other. However, let us compare them and take a look at where they are similar and how they are different.
Looking at the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two motion control running shoes.
Saucony did not make many changes when going from Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS to Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2. Both Saucony running shoes still consist of a breathable mesh upper with synthetic overlays for stability.
However, Saucony has changed the placement of the synthetic overlays around the heel so that they strap around the foot better from the Achilles to the upper part of the laces.
In addition, while Saucony running shoes already tend to run a bit on the wide side, a little more room has been added to the bunion window where the overlay has been moved more towards the soles.
And speaking about soles, there isn’t many visual differences to be noted in the midsole. However, Saucony has used a lighter EVA midsole in the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2, which has reduced the weight by 0.1 oz (3 grams). Therefore, the women’s version of the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 now weighs 11.6 oz (329 grams) instead of 11.7 oz (332 grams) as the original Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS weighed when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.
When looking at the outsoles, again there aren’t many differences to be noted. The vertical flex groove that runs from the back of the heel towards the forefoot still follows the same pattern, as does the horizontal flex grooves in the forefoot area.
However, what has changed is the type of blown rubber used in the forefoot. This rubber is much softer in the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 than in the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS, so it is expected to provide you with a bit more cushioning during toe-off.
Another notable difference in the outsoles is the pattern of the lugs in the forefoot. They were much farther apart in the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS than they currently are in the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2, so the flexibility in the forefoot has suffered a bit, meaning that it might take a while for you to break in the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2.
On the other hand, the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 consists of a bit more carbon rubber in the high impact areas, so it is expected to give you a bit more mileage than the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS did.
While the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 has maintained the same look and feel it has come to be known by, there have been some changes and improvements especially where weight is concerned. Motion control running shoes tend to be fairly heavy shoes overall, so every ounce less counts.
The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS has always been a shoe that suits the heavier runner who is looking for good motion control as well as a comfortable shoe that provides a smooth transition. The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 will definitely carry on this legacy.
The suggested retail motion control running shoe price of the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS is US $115, which is US $5 cheaper than the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2, which costs around US $120 when you compare motion control running shoes by price.
