Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS vs. Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 review

Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS is made for excessive overpronators and offers superior motion control, a smooth, cushioned ride, and a supportive, comfortable upper with a secure fit. Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 is a lightweight, cushioned, motion control running shoe that has a temperature-regulating upper, and is a good choice for runners who need a moderate amount of support. Learn how these two running shoes differ and are similar.

In two previous articles I wrote about the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 motion control running shoes for women.

The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS (the newest model of which is the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2) is a maximum stability motion control running shoe from Saucony, so one would expect it to be superior to the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3. Let's compare these two motion control running shoes and take a look at where they are similar and how they are different.

Looking at the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two motion control running shoes.

Saucony says that the ProGrid Stabil CS is suitable for extreme overpronators while the ProGrid Paramount 3 is suitable for mild overpronators. The difference in degree of pronation control is immediately visible when you look at the medial side of the Saucony motion control running shoes.

While the midsole of both the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 consist of dual density EVA, the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS has what's called a CS Zone in the midsole (something similar to the Rollbar in the Brooks Ariel), which provides maximum support and pronation control. On the other hand, the Saucony ProGrid Paramount has a medial post in the midsole to provide moderate pronation control.

Concentrating further on the midsole, the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS has ProGrid cushioning in the heel to absorb and dissipate shock, and to set the foot up for a smooth transition. The Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 in contrast, has ProGrid cushioning running from the heel to the forefoot to provide a more seamless transition from heel-strike to toe-off than the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS.

Another significant difference between the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 is in the uppers. While both motion control running shoes have an air mesh upper, you can see that the holes in the mesh of the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 are slightly larger than those in the mesh of the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS.

This is because the upper of the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 has what's called Comfortemp in its upper, which is a material that helps regulate the temperature of your feet to keep them warm when it is cold and cool when it is warm.

Both the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 have an Arch-Lock around the midfoot to provide you with a secure fit. But in the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3, this Arch-Lock is called a Stability Arch-Lock. And basically what it does is provide you with a snug midfoot fit together with a motion control device that secures and supports the heel.

The outsoles on the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 do not differ that much. Both consist of a mixture of blown rubber for lightweight cushioning and carbon rubber for durability.

While both motion control running shoes are expected to provide you with a similar amount of flexibility in the forefoot, the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 might be a bit more flexible, because of its greater segmentation overall. This includes the heel area, which is expected to better absorb shock than on the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS.

The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS weighs approximately 11.7 oz (332 grams), while the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 weighs approximately 10.4 oz (295 grams), so is 1.3 oz (37 grams) lighter than the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.

If you're looking for a maximum support motion control running shoe by Saucony that provides good cushioning, flexibility, and a secure fit around the midfoot, then the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS would be the motion control running shoe to go with.

If you are looking for a lightweight motion control running shoe by Saucony that provides mild pronation control with superior cushioning from heel to toe, flexibility, shock absorption, a smooth ride, and has temperature-regulating features, then the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3 might be the running shoe for you.

The suggested retail motion control running shoe price of the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS is US $115, which is almost US $55 cheaper than the Saucony ProGrid Paramount 3, which costs around US $170 when you compare motion control running shoes by price.
