© www.motioncontrolrunningshoes.org - Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 provides light weight performance and stability combined with Mizuno Wave technology to control overpronation with a midsole that offers exceptional cushioning. Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS is perfect for excessive overpronators who are a bit on the heavy side and who want a smooth, cushioned ride. Learn how these two running shoes differ and where they are similar.
In two previous articles I wrote about the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 motion control running shoes for women.
The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy are said to be each other’s counterparts or equivalents, so theoretically speaking they should stack up well against each other.
These two motion control running shoes are made by two different running shoe manufacturers (Saucony and Mizuno), so they are expected to be different. Let’s compare them and take a look at where these running shoes are similar and how they differ.
Looking at the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two types of running shoes.

Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS vs. Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 motion control running shoes
In the image above, Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS is shown on the left and Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 is shown on the right.
The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS has a plate in the midsole that runs all the way from the heel to the forefoot and which controls pronation and provides a smooth transition from heel-strike to toe-off. The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 has a similar plate in the midsole to control overpronation, but which is unique to Mizuno motion control running shoes.
The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 midsole plate has a wave-like structure and runs along the full length of the midsole just like the plate of the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS. So the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 is also expected to provide good pronation control in addition to a smooth transition from heel-strike to toe-off.
The inward rolling of your feet is further supported by the location of the durable rubber on the outsoles of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 and the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS. The location of this rubber is similar on both motion control running shoes, which is mainly along the insides of the feet and on the outsides of the heel. So again, both trainers are similar in this respect.
The entire structure of the outsole of both running shoes is very similar from the shape of the feet down to the flex grooves, but the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS has a slight edge with its waffle-like structure in the forefoot. So the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS should give you a bit more flexibility in the forefoot area, again adding to that smooth transition it is designed to deliver.
The big difference between the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 is in the design of the uppers.
While both running shoes have standard features such as mesh for breathability and synthetic layers, the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS provides layers around the midfoot that locks your feet down to the platform. The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 provides less such layers. Therefore the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS is expected to provide you with a more secure fit.
The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 weighs approximately 252 grams (8.9 oz), while the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS weighs approximately 332 grams (11.7 oz). So the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 is an 80 grams (2.8 oz) lighter motion control running shoe than the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS.
If you’re looking for a lightweight motion control running shoe that provides good stability, control, and a comfortable ride, the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 would be the running shoe to go with.
If you’re looking for a flexible motion control running shoe that provides a smooth ride and a secure fit, then the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS might be right for you.
The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9 comes at a suggested retail price of around US $110, while the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS costs US $5 more at a suggested retail price of US $115.
