Saucony Guide 7 vs. ASICS GT-2000 review

The Saucony Guide 7 delivers a good balance of cushioning and stability, while the ASICS GT-2000 offers the same at the same price. But how different are these two shoes? Find out.

The Saucony Guide 7 and the ASICS GT-2000 fall in the same category of stability shoes, but one is made by Saucony and the other by ASICS, so two different shoe manufacturers.

The uppers of the Saucony Guide 7 and ASICS GT-2000 consist of breathable mesh with synthetic overlays.

The overlays of both shoes have a similar wrapping all over and both running shoes implement mainly stitched overlays.

So both the ASICS GT-2000 and the Saucony Guide 7 should provide you with a secure fit.

The main difference lies probably in the overlays that go over the toe box.

They are much lighter on the ASICS GT-2000 than they are on the Saucony Guide 7, especially where the bunion window is concerned. So if you have large bunions, the Saucony Guide 7 might feel a bit more restricted and tight in that area than the ASICS GT-2000.

The Saucony Guide 7 and ASICS GT-2000 use different technologies in the midsole to control pronation and to provide cushioning and stability.

The ASICS GT-2000 has a SoLyte midsole with Dynamic DuoMax for stability and implements GEL in both the heel and forefoot for cushioning.

The Saucony Guide 7 has a PowerGrid midsole with cushioning and bounce back properties, and implements a firmer post on the medial side of the shoe to minimize pronation.

The Saucony Guide 7 has a crash pad on the lateral side of the heel to absorb shock when you land. While the ASICS GT-2000 does not have such a crash pad, the GEL cushioning should do the job there.

Both midsole and pronation control technologies should get the job done of providing you with enough stability, but overall, because of the medial post in the Saucony Guide 7, the SRC crash pad under the heel, and the wide running platform, the Saucony Guide 7 should provide you with more stability than the ASICS GT-2000.

The Saucony Guide 7 provides you with more forefoot cushioning than the ASICS GT-2000, while the ASICS GT-2000 provides you with more heel cushioning than the Saucony Guide 7.

So if you are a heel-striker, the ASICS GT-2000 would be more appropriate. And if you are a midfoot-striker, the Saucony Guide 7 could feel better during your runs.

The outsoles of both the Saucony Guide 7 and the ASICS GT-2000 consist of durable rubber under the heel. The Saucony Guide 7 has blown rubber in its forefoot, which provides extra cushioning, and the rubber lugs are somewhat larger for added durability.

While both outsoles are well segmented, the outsole of the ASICS GT-2000 has smaller squared lugs in the forefoot that follow the natural out-in movement of an overpronator well. So you can expect the ASICS GT-2000 to be more flexible in the forefoot than the Saucony Guide 7.

Both the Saucony Guide 7 and the ASICS GT-2000 make use of a midfoot shank to provide structural integrity and support to the midfoot when going from heel-strike to toe-off. However, this midfoot shank covers 2/3 of the midfoot in the Saucony Guide 7. The outer edge of the shoe almost completely touches the ground.

Therefore, you can expect the Saucony Guide 7 to provide you with smooth transitions. But do not forget that the Impact Guidance System and Guidance Line in the ASICS GT-2000 also enhances your gait.

The women's version of the Saucony Guide 7 weighs approximately 8.2 oz (232 grams) and the ASICS GT-2000 for women weighs approximately 9.1 oz (258 grams). The men's versions of the shoes weigh 10.1 oz (286 grams) and 11.4 oz (323 grams), respectively. So the Saucony Guide 7 is lighter than the ASICS GT-2000.

If you are an overpronator looking for a moderate amount of stability and lots of heel cushioning in a running shoe, then the ASICS GT-2000 might be the one to look into.

If you are a runner who needs a good amount of stability, are looking for lots of forefoot cushioning in a running shoe that is not extremely flexible, but performs well and gives you a responsive ride, then the Saucony Guide 7 might be the one for you.
