NEW! New Balance 1080v6 vs. Saucony Triumph ISO 3

The New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 fall in the same category of neutral cushioning running shoes and can be seen as each other's counterparts.

ADVERTISEMENTS

The uppers of the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 look very much alike due to the broad overlays wrapping the midfoot.

Saucony was the first to introduce such a construction in the upper where overlays hug the midfoot around sock-like mesh. New Balance followed by coming up with something similar.

So both the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 provide a good amount of support around the midfoot where runners tend to need it most.

Both the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 have a piece of plastic that supports the heel, but the support frame of the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 is sturdier and covers a larger area of behind the heel.

The forefoot of the two running shoes is also quite similar by not having many overlays on top of it. However, the mesh of the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 is more open so probably also more breathable than that of the Saucony Triumph ISO 2.

Overall, you should be able to get a similar amount of support from the upper of either the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 or the Saucony Triumph ISO 2.

The New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 provide heel-to-toe cushioning through their midsoles.

While both have one main layer of foam in their midsoles, the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 comes with a softer layer that lies just under the sockliner and as an insert in the heel.

This allows the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 to increase the amount of plushness of the running shoe, and it shows in running shoe lab tests.

Running shoe lab tests reveal that the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 is an extremely cushy running shoe for both men and women and both in the heel as well as in the forefoot. It is hard for other neutral cushioning running shoes to reach the amount of cushioning that the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 has.

This also applies to the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080, which lags behind in the amount of cushioning provided to runners when compared to the Saucony Triumph ISO 2.

For men, the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 displays a good amount of cushioning in both the heel and the forefoot with its forefoot cushioning coming close to the amount provided by the Saucony Triumph ISO 2.

For women, the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 delivers less cushioning than the men's version so lags a little bit more behind the amount of cushioning provided by the Saucony Triumph ISO 2. It has above average cushioning but is not as cushy as the Saucony Triumph ISO 2.

Therefore, if you are looking for an overall very soft ride, the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 would be the one to look into more than the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080, especially where women are concerned.

The Saucony Triumph ISO 2 and the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 do not provide support through devices in their midsoles because they are meant to be worn by runners who do not need stability and support.

Having said that, the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 does add some degree of stability to your runs with the full ground contact that it provides as well as the fact that its midsole flairs out a bit at the bottom to slightly increase the area of take-off.

The Saucony Triumph ISO 2 also provides full ground contact so also has the potential of providing you with a smoother heel-to-toe transition.

The amount of stability it provides is on par with that of the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080, but because its midsole does not flair out, the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 is seen as a tiny bit more stable.

The rubber outsoles of the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 and the Saucony look quite different with the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 having more main flex grooves than the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 and more separation between its rubber compartments for shock dissipation.

However, the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 provides a lot of forefoot cushioning, which could make it feel stiff. The latter is confirmed by running shoe lab tests, which show that that both the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 are relatively stiff running shoes for both men and women.

The women's version of the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 weighs approximately 8.6 oz (244 grams) and the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 for women also weighs approximately 8.6 oz (244 grams).

The men's versions of the shoes weigh 10.4 oz (295 grams) and 10.5 oz (298 grams), respectively, with the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 being the lighter one.

The New Balance 1080v6 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 are surprisingly similar in what they provide to runners, so if you are a neutral runner, you could go either way.

However, if you are looking for a very soft ride, the Saucony Triumph ISO 2 would be the one to look into.

And if you want to small touch of stability, the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 might be what you are looking for.
