This New Balance 1123 women's running shoe review is one of several New Balance 1123 reviews you can find on motion control running shoes.
In two previous articles I reviewed the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 and the New Balance 1123 motion control running shoes for women.
The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 is the most popular motion control running shoe from Mizuno, while the New Balance 1123 is an all-time favorite despite it not being the flagship motion control running shoe from New Balance. Let's compare these two motion control running shoes and take a look at where they are similar and how they are different.
Looking at the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 and the New Balance 1123 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two motion control running shoes.
Right away it is clearly visible that the outsoles of these two running shoes are very different. The outsole of the New Balance 1123 is pretty straight which is indicative of being suitable for people who have flat feet or are very heavy. The contour of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 on the other hand follows the natural shape of a normal foot, as an indication that this is a shoe that is more suitable to run in and for runners with normal arches.
Looking further at the outsoles we can see that the outsole of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 is quite segmented while that of the New Balance 1123 only sports flex grooves. So while the New Balance 1123 may offer you flexibility, it is less likely to absorb shock as well as the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 would. This again is an indication that the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 is better suited to run in and the New Balance 1123 better to walk in.
Continuing on looking at the outsoles, we can see that the New Balance 1123 has durable rubber almost over the entire outsole except for the inner forefoot area, while the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 has durable rubber mostly on the insides of the forefoot and on the entire heel. What this means is that the New Balance 1123 is expected to last you longer and give you more mileage than the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10.
Moving onto the midsoles now, you can see that both running shoes have a device to control pronation. While that device goes till the midfoot on the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10, it goes slightly past the midfoot on the New Balance 1123. So the New Balance 1123 is expected to provide you with motion control that is superior to that provided by the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10. If you are looking for a Mizuno running shoe that provides motion control similar to the New Balance 1123, you may want to look into the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4.
In addition, the midsoles on the New Balance 1123 are slightly thicker than those on the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10, so the amount of cushioning should also be a bit more pronounced on the New Balance 1123.
The uppers of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 and the New Balance 1123 also differ quite a bit. The New Balance 1123 consists of more overlays than mesh, meaning that it will give you a tighter and more secure fit than the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10. However, the synthetic overlays on the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 are located on all the right places to keep your foot securely on the platform. It would be a matter of breathability versus secure fit when choosing between these two runners when looking at their uppers.
The New Balance 1123 weighs approximately 11.6 oz (329 grams), while the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 weighs approximately 9.7 oz (275 grams), so is 1.9 oz (54 grams) lighter than the New Balance 1123 when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.
If you're looking for a Medicare diabetic shoe that is flexible in the toe-off phase and provides good pronation control in addition to a secure fit, then the New Balance 1123 would be the motion control shoe to go with.
If you are looking for a lightweight motion control running shoe, which provides good shock absorption, is more suitable as a running shoe, and provides you with a smooth ride, then the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 might be right for you.
The suggested retail price of the New Balance 1123 is US $147.99, which is almost US $38 more expensive than the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10, which costs around US $109.95 when you compare motion control running shoes by price.
