Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 combines the perfect blend of motion control and cushioning while keeping weight to a minimum, and is specifically designed to provide runners with a smooth ride, flexibility, and durability. Learn how these two running shoes differ and in which areas they are similar.

In two previous articles I wrote about the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 motion control running shoes for women.

Both the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 are made by Mizuno, so naturally there will not be many differences between these two motion control running shoes.

However, there are a few minor differences, which are worth pointing out. So let's compare these two motion control running shoes and take a look at where they are similar and how they are different.

Looking at the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two motion control running shoes.

Starting with the uppers, we can see that the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 look very similar. Both consist of breathable mesh with similarly placed synthetic overlays for a secure fit.

The main differences between the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 can be found in the midsole and outsole.

If you look at the midsole, you can see that the Wave plate runs along the full length of the running shoe on the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4, while it goes half from the heel towards the midfoot on the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10. This means that the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 provides more motion control than the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10.

In addition, the Wave plate on the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 is connected to the outsole via what's called sensor points. These function as a suspension system and provide extra stability and traction.

The second difference between the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 lies in the outsole. From looking at the forefoot it is clearly visible that the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 has more flex grooves, which means that it is expected to provide you with more flexibility in the forefoot than the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4.

And if you look at the heels on the outsole, you will see that the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 is more segmented on the outside part of the heel, than the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4. This means that the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 is expected to provide you with better shock absorption and dissipation in that area compared to the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4.

The Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 weighs approximately 11.4 oz (323 grams), while the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 weighs approximately 9.7 oz (275 grams), so is 1.7 oz (48 grams) lighter than the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.

If you're looking for a Mizuno motion control running shoe that is specifically built to provide motion control with maximum stability, then the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 is the shoe to go with.

If you are looking for a lightweight Mizuno motion control running shoe that provides less control than the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4, but still enough to control overpronation, good shock absorption, a smooth ride, and is flexible in the forefoot, then the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 is worth considering.

So if you want more cushioning, go with the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10, and if you want more control, go with the Mizuno Wave Renegade, because the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 tends more towards the stability running shoe side than the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 does. And if you are looking for a light motion control running shoe from Mizuno, the Mizuno Wave Alchemy will fit the bill.

The suggested retail motion control running shoe price of the Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 is US $119.95, which is US $10 more expensive than the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10, which costs around US $109.95.
