The Saucony Ride 8 and the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 are each other's counterparts. Both are lightweight and supply a good amount of cushioning to neutral runners.

The upper of the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 has less overlays than that of the Saucony Ride 8.

However, this does not mean that the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 is less supportive than the Saucony Ride 8, since the Mizuno logo connects the saddle to the midsole to give you a good amount of support around the midfoot.

The Saucony Ride 8 also provides a good amount of support around the midfoot and adds very light welded-on overlays on the toe box to really allow the foot to feel comfortable in that area.

The toe box of the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 is free from overlays, so you should also be able to get a comfortable feeling from it. Both running shoes are intended to minimize the amount of irritation points and should be able to do a good job of that.

Both the Saucony Ride 8 and the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 provide heel-to-toe cushioning through their midsoles.

The main difference in the midsoles is that the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 has a Wave Plate in the heel that has a centering effect and provides impact protection at heel-strike, while the Saucony Ride 8 has a crash pad that runs from the back of the heel till the midfoot to soften your landings and allow for a smooth transition to toe-off.

And while the heel of the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 sits higher off the ground than that of the Saucony Ride 8, running shoe lab tests have shown that the Saucony Ride 8 is still overall more cushy than the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 both in the heel and the forefoot for both men and women.

In addition, the Saucony Ride 8 turns out to have a very cushy forefoot.

However, because the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 has that Wave Plate in the heel that has a centering effect, it also provides a small degree of stability and support through it, so turns out to be more stable than the Saucony Ride 8.

But the Saucony Ride 8 provides more ground contact than the Mizuno Wave Rider 18, which should allow it to offer you smoother transitions from heel-strike to toe-off.

The outsoles of the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 and the Saucony Ride 8 differ quite a bit in construction and layout.

The Mizuno Wave Rider 18 has overall large rubber compartments with smaller cuts in them and only two deep horizontal flex grooves in the forefoot.

The Saucony Ride 8 has many more deep flex grooves than the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 and also deeper cuts making the smaller rubber pods stand out.

A larger degree of separation is beneficial to shock absorption and dissipation, but also flexibility. And running shoe lab tests confirm that the Saucony Ride 8 is much more flexible than the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 for both men and women.

The women's version of the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 weighs approximately 7.6 oz (215 grams) and the Saucony Ride 8 weighs 8.2 oz (232 grams). The men's version of the Saucony Ride 8 weighs about 9.7 oz (275 grams) and the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 for men weighs about 9.3 oz (264 grams).

If you are looking for a running shoe that provides a good amount of cushioning with a little bit of stability and support and that is responsive, then the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 would be one to look into.

And if you are after a running shoe that can provide you with a very cushy and smooth ride, then the Saucony Ride 8 could be the one for you.
