ADVERTISEMENTS

The first thing you will notice between the Brooks Transcend 3 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the Brooks Transcend 4 is the upper.

The upper of the Brooks Transcend 4 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com now comes with 3D Fit Print just like the Brooks Glycerin.

Nonetheless, you should still be able to get a more custom fit from the upper of the Brooks Transcend 4.

The Brooks Transcend 4 comes with an external heel counter just like the Brooks Transcend 3, but the heel counter on the Brooks Transcend 4 has been extended just a tiny bit toward the midfoot on the medial side to help with reducing excessive rotation and to lock your heel in.

Stitches have been introduced in the overlays at the front of the Brooks Transcend 4, which should help increase the durability at the front, compared to no stitches in the Brooks Transcend 3.

All in all, you should be able to get a similar fit from either running shoe, which includes lots of comfort and elements to keep your foot in place.

Because the construction of the midsole of the Brooks Transcend 4 has changed a bit compared to the Brooks Transcend 3, one would also expect the amount of cushioning to be slightly different.

Running shoe lab tests confirm this, with the differences being found mostly in the heel.

Both the Brooks Transcend 3 and the Brooks Transcend 4 provide a similar amount of forefoot cushioning to both men and women. This amount lies close to the maximum amount, so they have a very cushy forefoot.

However, larger differences can be found in the heel of the two running shoes.

Both for men and women, the Brooks Transcend 4 offers a maximum amount of heel cushioning, while the Brooks Transcend 3 lags just a small bit behind.

So, the Brooks Transcend 3 has a cushy heel but not as cushy as that of the Brooks Transcend 4.

The conclusion is that if you want an overall very soft ride, the Brooks Transcend 4 would be the one to go with, whether you are a man or a woman.

Because the Brooks Transcend 3 and the Brooks Transcend 4 are stability running shoes, they come with features that help runners stay in their natural motion path.

One of these features is the Guide Rails that run along the upper edge of the midsole on the lateral and medial sides of the shoes.

Another feature is the full ground contact that the Brooks Transcend provides, especially under the midfoot, where the platform is also a bit wider.

The Brooks Transcend 4 seems to provide better ground contact than the Brooks Transcend 3 but that could just be optical.

Both the amount of ground contact and the Guide Rails contribute to the stability of the running shoe, which according to running shoe lab tests lies above average and is about the same in both the Brooks Transcend 3 and the Brooks Transcend 4.

Note that the good amount of ground contact also helps you achieve smoother heel-to-toe transitions.

When you look at the outsoles, the biggest change that jumps out is that the layout of the rubber in the forefoot of the Brooks Transcend 4 has changed compared to the Brooks Transcend 3.

The flex grooves of the Brooks Transcend 4 run differently, and the Brooks Transcend 4 has one flex groove more than the Brooks Transcend 3.

These changes have helped increase the flexibility of the Brooks Transcend 4 compared to the Brooks Transcend 3, which is quite stiff for both men and women.

The women's version of the Brooks Transcend 3 weighs approximately 9.2 oz (261 grams), while the Brooks Transcend 4 for women weighs approximately 8.8 oz (249 grams).

The men's version of the Brooks Transcend 3 weighs about 11.4 oz (323 grams), and the Brooks Transcend 4 for men weighs 10.9 oz (309 grams).

If you are an overpronator who is looking for a very soft and comfortable ride, you could go with either the Brooks Transcend 3 or the Brooks Transcend 4.

The Brooks Transcend 4 is a very nice update of the Brooks Transcend 3. Brooks has maintained all of the good features of the Brooks Transcend 3 and only made them better in the Brooks Transcend 4.

Note: The weight of a running shoe depends on the size of the running shoe, so any weights mentioned in this review may differ from the weight of the running shoe you choose to wear. Running shoes of the same size were compared for this review.
