Brooks Ravenna 8 vs. Brooks Glycerin 15 review

Brooks Ravenna 8 provides comfort and cushioning to moderate overpronators. Brooks Glycerin 15 is a premium cushioning shoe that offers a plush and soft running experience.

The Brooks Ravenna 8 and the Brooks Glycerin 15 fall in two different categories of running shoes, with the Brooks Ravenna 8 being a stability running shoe and the Brooks Glycerin 15 a neutral cushioning running shoe.

ADVERTISEMENTS

The upper of the Brooks Ravenna 8 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com comes with a minimum amount of overlays in the mid to front area of the running shoe, while the Brooks Glycerin 15 comes with 3D Print overlays that run throughout the entire upper to give runners a more custom fit.

However, whereas in the past the Brooks Glycerin had some sturdy stitched-on overlays running across the midfoot, the Brooks Glycerin 15 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com now has no-sew ovelays that are much thinner in that area.

The Brooks Ravenna 8 also comes with no-sew overlays that pull the top of the saddle back towards the heel, but these overlays are helped by a band that you can pull tight in the saddle to get a more secure fit.

So in that respect, the Brooks Ravenna 8 might offer a more secure fit around the midfoot, although one could argue that because the support offered in that area is more centered towards the back of the shoe, in the end, the amount of support you get around the midfoot might be almost equal in both running shoes.

Both the Brooks Glycerin 15 and the Brooks Ravenna 8 have a durable toecap and offer a standard amount of support at the back of the running shoes.

All in all, you might be able to get an overall more custom fit from the Brooks Glycerin 15 and a more secure fit from the Brooks Ravenna 8 from midfoot to heel.

The Brooks Ravenna 8 uses a different type of cushioning than the Brooks Glycerin 15, which has a midsole that is supposed to deliver 20% more cushioning than that of the Brooks Ravenna 8.

This difference in cushioning is visible in running shoe lab tests, which show that the Brooks Glycerin 15 is overall cushier than the Brooks Ravenna 8 for both men and women.

The difference in cushioning between the two running shoes is greater for men than it is for women, though.

Women should be able to get an above average amount of cushioning from the Brooks Ravenna 8, with the Brooks Glycerin 15 topping that to increase the amount of cushioning in both the heel and the forefoot almost to the max.

Men should be able to get an about average amount of cushioning from the Brooks Ravenna 8, with the Brooks Glycerin 15 again offering an amount of forefoot and heel cushioning that is almost to the max.

While the Brooks Ravenna 8 is a stability running shoe and the Brooks Glycerin 15 a neutral cushioning running shoe, running shoe lab tests have rated the Brooks Glycerin 15 to be much more stable than the Brooks Ravenna 8, which is surprising.

According to running shoe lab tests, the Brooks Glycerin 15 offers an above average amount of stability, while the Brooks Ravenna 8 falls below average.

This is in contrast to the fact that the midsole of the Brooks Ravenna 8 has been reinforced on the medial side to help stop the feet of overpronators from rolling too far inward, while the midsole of the Brooks Glycerin 15 does not have such reinforcement.

However, the Brooks Glycerin 15 does provide full ground contact and has a midsole that is well segmented to add to the smoothness and the stability of your runs.

The Brooks Ravenna 8 also provides a good amount of ground contact and has an X under the midfoot to help with faster heel-to-toe transitions.

The rubber outsoles of the two running shoes look quite different, but both provide a good amount of flex grooves, with the Brooks Glycerin 15 having slightly more of them.

This should help with the flexibility of the running shoe, but because it also provides so much cushioning, it does not turn out to be more flexible than the Brooks Ravenna 8.

According to running shoe lab tests, the two running shoes are almost equally stiff for men, while the Brooks Ravenna 8 is a tiny bit more flexible than the Brooks Glycerin 15 for women.

The women's version of the Brooks Glycerin 15 weighs approximately 8.8 oz (249 grams), while the Brooks Ravenna 8 for women weighs approximately 9.0 oz (255 grams).

The men's version of the Brooks Glycerin 15 weighs about 10.7 oz (303 grams), and the Brooks Ravenna 8 for men weighs about 10.8 oz (306 grams).

The Brooks Ravenna 8 was created for overpronators and the Brooks Glycerin 15 for neutral runners, but if running shoe lab test numbers are anything to go by, overpronators could also run in the Brooks Glycerin 15.

If you are a neutral runner who is looking for a very soft ride with a good amount of stability, the Brooks Glycerin 15 would definitely be the one to look into.

If you are a moderate overpronator, the Brooks Ravenna 8 was made for you, but if you are after lots of support, you may want to look into the Brooks Adrenaline GTS or a similar running shoe.

Note: The weight of a running shoe depends on the size of the running shoe, so any weights mentioned in this review may differ from the weight of the running shoe you choose to wear. Running shoes of the same size were compared for this review.
