ADVERTISEMENTS

The uppers of the Brooks Ravenna 7 and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com are similar in that both have no-sew overlays wrapping the midfoot.

They differ in that the Brooks Ravenna 7 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com comes with an extra strap that pulls the saddle toward the midsole and around the heel. This strap provides additional support in the upper.

The Brooks Ravenna 7 also has lighter overlays running on its toe box and tend to open up the forefoot more than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17.

The overlays that wrap the forefoot in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 could feel a bit tighter than the lighter overlays in the Brooks Ravenna 7.

All in all, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 and the Brooks Ravenna 7 provide enough support through their uppers to keep your foot on the platform although the Brooks Ravenna 7 might offer a bit more support toward the back and comfort toward the front.

Neither the Brooks Ravenna 7 nor the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 is meant to provide an excessive amount of cushioning to runners, because they are more concerned with providing support to overpronators.

Having said this, running shoe lab tests show that they both provide a good amount of forefoot cushioning to runners.

For men, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 has a very cushy forefoot, while the Brooks Ravenna 7 provides an above average amount of forefoot cushioning.

The big difference lies in the amount of heel cushioning provided. In this case, the Brooks Ravenna 7 has a very cushy heel, but the heel of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 might feel a bit firm to men.

The firm heel is also present in the female version of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17. In addition, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 also provides a bit less forefoot cushioniong than the Brooks Ravenna 7 for women.

The Brooks Ravenna 7 displays a good balance between heel and forefoot cushioning for women. It is an overall cushy running shoe, but not too cushy.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 displays more of an imbalance between heel and forefoot cushioning for both genders by having a cushy forefoot but much less cushy heel.

Therefore, the Brooks Ravenna 7 might suit heel-strikers better than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17.

The Brooks Ravenna 7 and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 come with a post on the medial side to control overpronation.

This post or area of firmer foam is long in both running shoes and run far back. They are also both reinforced by a small midfoot shank under the midfoot.

One difference is that the post of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 comes with several densities of foam to make the pronation control more gradual. This is not the case in the Brooks Ravenna 7.

In addition, while the Brooks Ravenna 7 comes with a crash pad under the heel that runs till the midfoot, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 comes with a crash pad that runs along the entire lateral side of the midsole.

Therefore, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 is more likely to give you smoother transitions from heel-strike to toe-off as well as add a bit more stability to your ride.

The latter is confirmed by running shoe lab tests, which show that while both running shoes provide almost a maximum amount of stability, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 turns out to be just a tad more stable than the Brooks Ravenna 7.

The rubber outsoles of the two running shoes also differ a bit. While the Brooks Ravenna 7 is quite separated under its crash pad, it has larger rubber sections in the forefoot .

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17, on the other hand, has small rubber pods all over its outsole in addition to a good amount of flex grooves.

This helps the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 be a bit more flexible than the Brooks Ravenna 7, which according to running shoe lab tests, is quite stiff for both men and women.

The women's version of the Brooks Ravenna 7 weighs approximately 8.6 oz (244 grams), while the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 for women weighs approximately 8.9 oz (252 grams).

The men's version of the Brooks Ravenna 7 weighs 11.0 oz (312 grams), and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 for men weighs about 10.9 oz (309 grams).

Making a decision between the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 and the Brooks Ravenna 7 is not easy, because both are very stable running shoes for overpronators.

I guess the distinction point will be in the amount of cushioning you are after. If you are a heel-striker, the Brooks Ravenna 7 might be a better option than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 is good for runners who need a lot of stability and support that comes close to motion control, and who are looking for a smooth and flexible ride.
