NEW! Brooks Launch 3 vs. Brooks Ghost 9 and Brooks Launch 4 vs. Brooks Ghost 9

The Brooks Launch 2 and the Brooks Ghost 7 are neutral cushioning running shoes that share a lot of similarities.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Starting with the uppers, the Brooks Launch 2 and the Brooks Ghost 7 both have no-sew overlays, but the Brooks Ghost 7 also implements stitched-on overlays that wrap the heel and at the front of the shoe. The upper of the Brooks Launch 2 however is completely no-sew.

Another similarity is that the Brooks Ghost 7 and the Brooks Launch 2 have a discrete amount of overlays wrapping the midfoot.

But while the Brooks Ghost 7 also has light overlays running over the toe box, the Brooks Launch 2 has a completely wide open toe box to allow your forefoot to have total freedom of movement.

Overall you can expect to get a little bit more support from the upper of the Brooks Ghost 7 compared to the Brooks Launch 2, because it has those sturdy stitched-on overlays at the back of the shoe. And while the Brooks Ghost 7 is not that constricted, the Brooks Launch 2 may feel more comfortable if you have big bunions.

The Brooks Launch 2 and the Brooks Ghost 7 continue to be similar in their midsoles where both implement BioMoGo DNA cushioning.

Both also have a segmented crash pad under the heel and provide full ground contact at the midfoot, so should provide you with smooth transitions from heel-strike to toe-off.

The midsoles of the Brooks Launch 2 and the Brooks Ghost 7 are also almost equally thick, especially for men. For women, the Brooks Ghost 7 sits a little higher off the ground, so should offer a bit more protection from the road than the Brooks Launch 2.

Running shoe lab tests have shown that the Brooks Ghost 7 has a very cushy heel compared to the Brooks Launch 2, but that the Brooks Launch 2 is just a tiny bit more cushy in the forefoot for women.

For men, the amount of cushioning offered by the two neutral running shoes come very close to each other with the Brooks Ghost 7 being slightly more cushy than the Brooks Launch 2 in both the heel and the forefoot.

The Brooks Launch 2 looks very much like the Brooks Ghost 7 in what it offers, especially to men, with the Brooks Ghost 7 offering just a bit more.

The rubber outsole of the Brooks Ghost 7 is well-segmented with small rubber pods and a good amount of flex grooves compared to the Brooks Launch 2, which is more linear.

However, this does not affect the flexibility of the shoe, since running shoe lab tests have revealed that the Brooks Launch 2 is more flexible than the Brooks Ghost 7.

This does not mean that the Brooks Ghost 7 is stiff, though, since it is an above average flexible running shoe. The Brooks Launch 2 is just a tad more flexible than it.

The women's version of the Brooks Launch 2 weighs approximately 8.0 oz (227 grams), while the Brooks Ghost 7 for women weighs approximately 8.5 oz (241 grams). The men's version of the Brooks Launch 2 weighs about 10.0 oz (283 grams), and the Brooks Ghost 7 for men weighs 10.3 oz (292 grams).

You should be able to get a soft and comfortable ride from either the Brooks Launch 2 or the Brooks Ghost 7 and both running shoes come close to each in what they have to offer.

It may boil down to the kind of fit each offers that may have you want to choose one above the other. If you need space in the forefoot area and are looking for a very lightweight and flexible running shoe that offers enough cushioning, the Brooks Launch 2 would be the one to look into.

If on the other hand you want a bit more cushioning and a bit more tighter fit in the forefoot area, then the Brooks Ghost 7 might be able to offer you what you are looking for.

Note: The weight of a running shoe depends on the size of the running shoe, so any weights mentioned in this review may differ from the weight of the running shoe you choose to wear. Running shoes of the same size were compared for this review.
