ADVERTISEMENTS

The uppers of the Brooks Ghost 9 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the Brooks Launch 3 are similar in that both try to minimize the amount of stitches in the upper to give runners a comfortable fit.

Both the Brooks Launch 3 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the Brooks Ghost 9 have mesh that is quite open, breathable, and has a structure that helps hold your foot.

The difference is that the Brooks Launch 3 comes with layers of mesh similar to the Brooks Transcend 2 and 3D Fit Print similar to the Brooks Glycerin 13.

These features help the Brooks Launch 3 provide you with a good wrap around the entire foot.

This is unlike the Brooks Ghost 9, which comes with some very light no-sew overlays around the midfoot and a sturdier no-sew overlay that goes around the heel to strap you in.

All in all, the Brooks Launch 3 might provide a more custom fit than the Brooks Ghost 9, but you should still be able to get enough support from the upper of either running shoe.

The Brooks Ghost 9 and the Brooks Launch 3 are both in the business of providing you with a soft ride but not a ride that is super soft.

They both make use of the same type of midsole material and cushioning.

However, the setup of the midsoles differ in that the Brooks Ghost 9 comes with a crash pad that runs along the entire outer length of the midsole, while the crash pad of the Brooks Launch 3 is concentrated under the heel.

The full-length crash pad of the Brooks Ghost 9 increases the stability of the running shoe. And other features such as a good amount of ground contact and a good amount of separation in the outsole help make the Brooks Ghost 9 a very stable running shoe despite not being a stability running shoe.

The latter is confirmed by running shoe lab tests, which also show that the Brooks Ghost 9 provides a large amount of heel cushioning to both men and women.

The amount of forefoot cushioning is a bit less but still remains above average.

The cushioning of the Brooks Launch tends to remain under that of the Brooks Ghost 9, but that is probably because the Brooks Launch has been built for runners who want to run at a faster pace.

This faster pace is further enhanced by the fact that the weight of the Brooks Launch tends to remain under that of the Brooks Ghost.

When you look at the outsoles of the running shoes, you will notice that there is a good amount of separation in the outsoles of both the Brooks Launch 3 and the Brooks Ghost 9 but that the Brooks Ghost 9 has smaller and more plentiful rubber pods.

The Brooks Launch 3, on the other hand, has a good amount of horizontal flex grooves in its forefoot and one main flex groove more than the Brooks Ghost 9.

The flex grooves help the Brooks Launch 3 provide a good amount of flexibility to runners, and the smaller rubber pods help the Brooks Ghost 9 dissipate shock so smoothen your ride.

Both the Brooks Launch 3 and the Brooks Ghost 9 provide a good amount of ground contact, which should help provide you with smooth transitions from heel-strike to toe-off.

And while both running shoes provide a good amount of ground contact directly under the midfoot, it is the Brooks Launch 3 that really closes the gap under the midfoot to provide a good and fast transition zone right under the midfoot.

The women's version of the Brooks Ghost 9 weighs approximately 9.0 oz (255 grams), while the Brooks Launch 3 for women weighs approximately 7.9 oz (224 grams).

The men's version of the Brooks Ghost 9 weighs about 10.5 oz (298 grams), and the Brooks Launch 3 for men weighs 9.8 oz (278 grams).

If you are a neutral runner who is looking for a soft ride from a running shoe, you could choose either the Brooks Launch 3 or the Brooks Ghost 9.

Heel-strikers and runners wanting a bit of stability would benefit from the features of the Brooks Ghost 9, and fast paced runners may want to look into the Brooks Launch 3 more than the Brooks Ghost 9.

Note: The weight of a running shoe depends on the size of the running shoe, so any weights mentioned in this review may differ from the weight of the running shoe you choose to wear. Running shoes of the same size were compared for this review.
