ADVERTISEMENTS

The uppers of both the Brooks Beast 16 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com / Brooks Ariel 16 and the Brooks Transcend 4 consist of mesh with no-sew overlays.

The overlays on the Brooks Transcend 4 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com tend to run parallel to the upper, while those on the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com tend to run more across.

The latter setup should provide more support than the former.

Another difference is that the overlays on the Brooks Transcend 4 are 3D Print overlays and more plentiful to provide a more custom fit.

Both running shoes come with a stitched-on toecap to increase the durability at the front of the running shoes.

At the back, both the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 and the Brooks Transcend 4 have an external heel counter to provide extra support behind the heel.

The difference here is that the heel counter of the Brooks Transcend 4 seems to be a bit sturdier and runs further toward the midfoot than that of the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16.

All in all, the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 might provide more support around the midfoot, but both running shoes provide a good amount of support behind the heel.

The Brooks Transcend 4 is a stability running shoe, but it is also meant to provide quite a bit of cushioning to overpronators.

According to running shoe lab tests, the Brooks Transcend 4 provides almost a maximum amount of cushioning in both the heel and the forefoot and to both men and women.

It does so through the use of a Super DNA midsole that provides 20% more cushioning than BioMoGo DNA midsole that is used by other Brooks running shoes.

The Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 also has a Super DNA midsole, so is also meant to provide runners with a soft ride.

The biggest difference between the midsoles of the Brooks Transcend 4 and the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 is the long medial post in the midsole of the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16.

This medial post is reinforced by a midfoot shank that extends into the foam under the heel to increase the effect of pronation control while stopping your foot from rolling too far inward.

The medial post is also backed by foam of different densities to make the process of pronation control more gradual.

The Brooks Transcend 4 does not come with a medial post in its midsole. Instead, it comes with Guide Rails that run along the upper edge of the midsole to help your body and feet find its natural motion path.

So the Brooks Transcend 4 does not really correct your feet but rather helps your body correct itself.

In addition to the Guide Rails, the Brooks Transcend 4 also uses the external heel counter to reduce excess rotation.

The Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 comes with a full-length crash pad on the lateral side of the midsole, which the Brooks Transcend 4 does not come with.

This crash pad should not only provide soft landings but also smoother heel-to-toe transitions. But because the Brooks Transcend 4 and the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 provide a good amount of ground contact, they should both be able to provide runners with a smooth ride.

The Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 delivers a maximum amount of stability and support, but according to running shoe lab tests, runners should be able to get an above average amount of stability and support from the Brooks Transcend 4 too.

The outsoles of the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 and the Brooks Transcend 4 are well separated with enough flex grooves for flexibility, but due to the medial post, the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 is expected to be a bit less flexible than the Brooks Transcend 4.

The Brooks Ariel 16 for women weighs approximately 11.4 oz (323 grams), while the Brooks Transcend 4 for women weighs approximately 8.8 oz (249 grams).

The Brooks Beast 16 for men weighs approximately 13.6 oz (386 grams), and the Brooks Transcend 4 for men weighs 10.9 oz (309 grams).

Because both the Brooks Transcend 4 and the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 are stability running shoes, it will be a bit difficult to make a choice between them.

The main thing to remember is that the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 is for excessive overpronators, and the Brooks Transcend 4 is for moderate overpronators.

So if you know that you your feet tend to roll inward excessively and that you will need lots of support, the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 might be worth looking into. Bigger runners are also able to handle the weight of the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16 better.

On the other hand, if you need a moderate amount of stability or if you are a lighter runner, you may want to look into the Brooks Transcend 4 instead of the Brooks Beast 16 / Brooks Ariel 16.
