ADVERTISEMENTS

The uppers of the Saucony Kinvara 8 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the Brooks Ghost 9 consist of mesh with light no-sew overlays.

The overlays are barely visible on the Saucony Kinvara 8, but they are there and provide support around the midfoot and at the front of the running shoe.

The Brooks Ghost 9 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com also has no-sew overlays around the midfoot, but they run parallel to the midsole, and there is an overlay that runs across the bottom of the saddle, close to the forefoot.

This means that the Saucony Kinvara 8 is more likely to provide a bit more space around the bunion window, but the Brooks Ghost 9 does not have overlays on its toe box but instead makes use of structured mesh to provide support, so the toe box should feel pretty comfortable.

At the back, the Brooks Ghost 9 has some overlays that wrap the heel, while the Saucony Kinvara 8 comes with a support piece on the medial side of the heel and another one on the lateral side of the midfoot. It does not have any other overlays at the back, though.

This means that the Brooks Ghost 9 might provide a bit more support behind the heel than the Saucony Kinvara 8, but the Saucony Kinvara 8 is better able to keep your foot on the platform and provide a bit of support for inner and outer heel rotation.

The upper of the Saucony Kinvara 8 has been kept very basic and light while still providing enough support to keep your foot on the running platform. The upper of the Brooks Ghost 9 provides a good amount of support from midfoot toward the back of the running shoe.

The midsoles of the Saucony Kinvara 8 and the Brooks Ghost 9 provide a good amount of ground contact for smooth heel-to-toe transitions and a bit of stability.

The Brooks Ghost 9 increases the amount of stability with a full-length crash pad on the lateral side of the midsole.

The Saucony Kinvara 8 does not come with a full-length crash pad but instead has a crash pad that has been integrated into the midsole on the lateral side under the heel.

Running shoe lab tests rate the Saucony Kinvara 8 as providing an average amount of stability, while the Brooks Ghost 9 is seen as a very stable running shoe.

In terms of cushioning, the Brooks Ghost 9 is not meant to be a very cushy running shoe, but still running shoe lab tests show that it provides a lot of and almost an equal amount of heel cushioning as the Saucony Kinvara 8 to both men and women.

Both running shoes seem to be suitable for heel-strikers.

Where the Brooks Ghost 9 lags behind the Saucony Kinvara 8 is in the forefoot cushioning department.

While the Brooks Ghost 9 delivers a slightly above average amount of forefoot cushioning, the Saucony Kinvara 8 delivers almost a maximum amount of forefoot cushioning.

This means that you should be able to get a comfortable ride from both running shoes, but that the Brooks Ghost 9 might be a bit more responsive than the Saucony Kinvara 8.

The Brooks Ghost 9 also sits a bit higher off the ground (especially under the heel) and has a higher heel-to-toe drop than the Saucony Kinvara 8, so the Brooks Ghost 9 might feel more like a performance running shoe than the Saucony Kinvara 8, while the Saucony Kinvara 8 might suit those who want to get closer to a neutral plane.

The outsoles of the two running shoes differ quite a bit due to the fact that the Saucony Kinvara 8 has a minimum amount of rubber in its outsole to help keep the weight of the running shoe down.

The Saucony Kinvara 8 comes with rubber in high-wear areas and has a good amount of flex grooves.

The outsole of the Brooks Ghost 9 consists of a good amount of rubber so is more durable than the Saucony Kinvara 8. In addition, it has smaller rubber pods that should help smoothen your ride even more.

However, in terms of flexibility, running shoe lab tests have found that the Saucony Kinvara 8 is very flexible for both men and women, while the Brooks Ghost 9 is on the stiff side but not extremely stiff.

The women's version of the Saucony Kinvara 8 weighs approximately 6.8 oz (193 grams), and the Brooks Ghost 9 for women weighs 9.0 oz (255 grams).

The men's versions of the shoes weigh 8.0 oz (227 grams) and 10.5 oz (298 grams), respectively, with the Saucony Kinvara 8 being the lighter one.

If you are a neutral runner who is looking for a soft and comfortable ride, you could go with either the Saucony Kinvara 8 or the Brooks Ghost 9, thereby keeping in mind that the Saucony Kinvara 8 might deliver an overall softer running experience.

The Brooks Ghost 9 is good for those who are looking for a bit of extra stability in addition to smooth rides.

The Saucony Kinvara 8 is good for those who are looking for something lighter on their feet.
