New Balance 1260v6 vs. Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 review

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 delivers tons of stability with cushioning that is not too soft. New Balance 1260v6 provides a lot of stability and support in addition to a responsive ride.

The New Balance 1260v6 and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 are both stability running shoes that provide a lot of support to overpronators.

ADVERTISEMENTS

The New Balance 1260v6 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 have overlays that run similarly around the midfoot.

However, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com uses overlays with no stitches, while the New Balance 1260v6 have stitches in its overlays.

Stitched-on overlays are generally more supportive and durable than no-sew overlays.

The two running shoes also have overlays that connect the saddle to the front of the shoe. The overlays that run on the toe box of the New Balance 1260v6 are no-sew instead of stitched-on overlays to increase the amount of comfort.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 also uses no-sew overlays on its toe box, but they drop down lower along the sides than those on the New Balance 1260v6.

This allows the bunion window of the New Balance 1260v6 to be more open and free than the one of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16.

At the back of the shoe, the New Balance 1260v6 continues providing quite a bit a support with stitched-on overlays but also with a heel counter that is higher on the medial side than it is on the lateral side.

This allows the New Balance 1260v6 to start providing pronation control right in its upper. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 does not come with such a feature.

After everything has been considered, one could say that the New Balance 1260v6 offers a bit more support through its upper than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16.

Both the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 and the New Balance 1260v6 are more concerned with providing runners with a lot of support rather than a lot of cushioning.

Therefore, one should not expect either running shoe to be super cushy.

Running shoe lab tests show that their cushioning profiles come very close to each other.

For women, the New Balance 1260v6 offers overall a bit more heel and forefoot cushioning than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16, which provides above average cushioning to women but not to an excessive degree.

So women should be able to get a soft and comfortable ride from either running shoe.

Men tend to get a bit less cushioning than women, with both the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 and the New Balance 1260v6 providing an equal amount of forefoot cushioning.

The amount of forefoot cushioning is just above average for men.

The New Balance 1260v6 provides about the same amount of heel cushioning and displays a good balance between heel and forefoot cushioning.

However, men may find the heel of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 to be a bit on the firm side.

Both the New Balance 1260v6 and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 come with a long post on the medial side to control overpronation.

This medial post is reinforced by a midfoot shank in both running shoes, but the midfoot shank covers a larger area under the midfoot of the New Balance 1260v6 than it does under the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16, so the former may be a bit more supportive.

What is also different is that the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 comes with several densities of foam at the rear end of the medial post to make the pronation control more gradual.

Another thing that is different is that the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 comes with a crash pad that runs along the entire lateral side of the midsole to not only soften your landing but also provide smoother heel-to-toe transitions.

This crash pad also adds to the stability of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16.

So both running shoes provide features that the other does not have, and after you consider everything, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 and the New Balance 1260v6 turn out to be almost equally stable and supportive.

Running shoe lab tests confirm this but place the New Balance 1260v6 just one tiny notch above the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 in the stability category, which I think is a fair assessment due to the very supportive upper of the New Balance 1260v6.

In terms of flexibility, running shoe lab tests also rate the New Balance 1260v6 as the more flexible one for both men and women.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16, on the other hand, turns out to be on the stiff side despite its outsole being more segmented than that of the New Balance 1260v6.

The women's version of the New Balance 1260v6 weighs approximately 9.8 oz (278 grams), and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 for women weighs 9.5 oz (269 grams).

The men's versions of the shoes weigh 11.5 oz (326 grams) and 11.1 oz (315 grams), respectively, with the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 being the lighter one.

If you are an overpronator who is looking for a very supportive ride, you could go with either the New Balance 1260v6 or the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 because both are very supportive running shoes.

However, for a more secure fit, the New Balance 1260v6 might be a better choice, and for a smoother ride, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16 might be the better option.

Note: The weight of a running shoe depends on the size of the running shoe, so any weights mentioned in this review may differ from the weight of the running shoe you choose to wear. Running shoes of the same size were compared for this review.
