Neither the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 nor the Brooks Glycerin 14 provide an excessive amount of support behind the heel although the Brooks Glycerin 14 provides a bit more than the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 due to a larger stitched-on piece at the back.

If you have large bunions, they might feel a bit more comfortable in the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 due to the use of mesh instead of overlays in that area.

All in all, the Brooks Glycerin 14 provides a bit more support through its upper than the Mizuno Wave Rider 20, and both should be able to deliver a comfortable fit although the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 might feel a bit looser and thus more comfortable than the Brooks Glycerin 14.

The makeup of the midsole differs quite a bit in both running shoes due to the use of a Wave Plate in the midsole of the Mizuno Wave Rider 20.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the Brooks Glycerin 14 is more cushy than the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 for men in both the heel and the forefoot.

The Mizuno Wave Rider 20 delivers an above average amount of cushioning to men, but it does not come close to the amount delivered by the Brooks Glycerin 14.

On the other hand, running shoe lab tests show that the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 delivers almost a maximum amount of heel cushioning to women, while the Brooks Glycerin 14 lies just a notch below that.

However, the Brooks Glycerin 14 delivers almost a maximum amount of forefoot cushioning to women, while the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 lies a notch below that.

Overall though, women get a bit more cushioning from the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 than men do.

As far as stability goes, running shoe lab tests rate the Brooks Glycerin 14 to be much more stable than the Mizuno Wave Rider 20.

However, if you are a neutral runner, the amount of stability may not be that much of a concern.

The rubber outsoles of the two running shoes look quite different due to the use of the Wave Plate that also functions as a midfoot shank in the Mizuno Wave Rider 20.

The outsole of the Brooks Glycerin 14 displays a larger amount of separation and has more major flex grooves than that of the Mizuno Wave Rider 20. This should help with shock absorption and flexibility.

According to running shoe lab tests, both running shoes deliver an above average amount of flexibility, but the Brooks Glycerin 14 is just a tiny bit more flexible than the Mizuno Wave Rider 20.

The women's version of the Brooks Glycerin 14 weighs approximately 8.9 oz (252 grams), and the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 for women weighs 8.3 oz (235 grams).

The men's versions of the shoes weigh 10.7 oz (303 grams) and 10.3 oz (292 grams), respectively, with the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 being the lighter one.

If you are a neutral runner, you could go with either the Mizuno Wave Rider 20 or the Brooks Glycerin 14.

If you prefer a somewhat looser and more comfortable fit and enough cushioning for long runs, you may want to look into the Mizuno Wave Rider 20.

And if you want a bit more stability and a smoother and softer ride, you may want to look into the Brooks Glycerin 14.

Men looking for a very soft ride may prefer the Brooks Glycerin 14, while women could go either way depending on whether they want lots of heel or forefoot cushioning.
