Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 vs. 13 review

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 provides a good balance between cushioning and stability. But how much better did it get compared to the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13? Let's find out.

NEW! Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18 vs. Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 and Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 are premier stability running shoes and the go-to shoes of Brooks.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Since they are made by the same running shoe manufacturer, they should not differ that much.

However, because we are comparing a newer model against an older model of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS, we should at least expect some improvements.

So let's see what has changed...

Starting with the uppers, we can see that Brooks changed a couple of things.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 hugs and wraps your midfoot better, since the midfoot overlays have increased. These overlays should keep your feet firmly on the running platform.

In addition, the overlays at the back of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 have been reduced in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 to make the shoe more "open" and breathable.

And to maintain structural integrity in the upper, Brooks has added discrete no-stitch overlays running from the midfoot towards the heel and towards the forefoot.

So while the upper of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 should feel less tight and more comfortable, it should still wrap your foot well where it is needed most - around your midfoot.

The look of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 is also new, fresh, and sleek. And the running shoe comes in several vibrant colors to choose from. The latter should appeal to many women.

Brooks has maintained the BioMoGo midsole in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 as well as the adaptable cushioning offered by Brooks DNA technology, which adapts with your running style, speed, and weight.

What has also not changed is the presence and placement of the Progressive Diagonal Rollbar (PDRB) to control pronation and provide support and stability throughout the gait cycle.

However, Brooks has increased ground contact in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 compared to the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 by extending the midsole to the ground on the lateral side of the running shoe. This should provide you with a smoother transition from heel-strike to toe-off.

The segmented crash pad that was located at the back and on the lateral side of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 now also extends till the midfoot and blends in with the forefoot to help with more shock absorption and that smooth transition.

The outsoles of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 do not differ that much. They consist of the same durable rubber.

However, the layout of the rubber on the outsole of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 is a bit different than that of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13. If anything, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 should feel more flexible while you are running.

There is a vertical flex groove in the center of the outsole in the forefoot area of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 that was missing in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13. This should provide you with a bit more lateral flexibility.

If you are used to running in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13, the toe-off phase might feel a bit different in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14, since the structure and placement of the flex grooves have changed considerably.

The women's version of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 weighs approximately 9.2 oz (261 grams), while the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 weighs approximately 9.4 oz (266 grams). The men's version of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 weighs about 11.3 oz (320 grams), and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 weighs 11.2 oz (318 grams).

So the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 got a bit heavier for women and a bit lighter for men. The amount of weight gain or loss is quite insignificant, though.

Note: The weight of a running shoe depends on the size of the running shoe, so any weights mentioned in this review may differ from the weight of the running shoe you choose to wear. Running shoes of the same size were compared for this review.
