In two previous articles I reviewed the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Brooks Addiction 9 motion control running shoes for women.
The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS (the latest model of which is the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2) and the Brooks Addiction 9 are said to be comparable running shoes, so theoretically speaking they should stack up well against each other.
These two motion control running shoes are made by two different running shoe manufacturers (Saucony and Brooks), so will of course be different.
Let's compare them and take a look at where these two running shoes are similar and how they differ.
Looking at the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Brooks Addiction 9 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two types of motion control running shoes.
Both the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS and the Brooks Addiction 9 have a medial post in the midsole that is typical of all motion control running shoes and designed to control pronation and keep your feet in a neutral plane during the gait cycle.
But the difference is that the medial post of the the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS runs all the way from the heel to the forefoot, while it doesn’t do that in the Brooks Addiction 9. And because of this, the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS might give you a smoother transition from heel-strike to toe-off than the Brooks Addiction 9 would.
The inward rolling of the feet is further supported by the location of the durable rubber on the outsoles of both running shoes. However, the durable rubber on the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS is located more on the insides of the feet, while it is more equally distributed over the entire outsole of the Brooks Addiction 9.
If you tend to run and land more on the outsides of your feet and then roll inward, the Brooks Addiction 9 might be better suited if you’re looking for durability.
The outsoles of the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS offer more flex grooves than the Brooks Addiction 9 in both the forefoot and heel area, which means that the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS should be a more flexible running shoe than the Brooks Addiction 9.
In addition, the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS follows the natural shape of your feet, while the platform of the Brooks Addiction 9 is more linear, making the Brooks Addiction 9 more suitable as a walking or gym shoe than a running shoe.
Looking at the uppers, it is clearly visible that the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS hugs the midfoot well, while the Brooks Addiction 9 gives you a more secure fit from heel to forefoot.
Where the women’s running shoes are concerned, the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS weighs approximately 332 grams (11.7 oz), while the Brooks Addiction 9 weighs 301 grams (10.6 oz), which is 31 grams (1.1 oz) lighter.
If you’re looking for a flexible motion control running shoe that provides good support in addition to a smooth and comfortable ride, the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS might be the running shoe for you.
If on the other hand, you’re looking for a lightweight motion control running shoe that provides a secure fit from heel to forefoot, then the Brooks Addiction 9 might provide what you need.
The Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS comes at a suggested motion control running shoe price tag of US $115, while the Brooks Addiction 9 is $15 more cheaper at US $100.
