In two previous articles I wrote about the Brooks Addiction 9 and the New Balance 587 motion control running shoes for women.

The Brooks Addiction 9 and New Balance 587 while made by two different running shoe manufacturers (Brooks and New Balance) looks strikingly similar at first glance, so let's compare these two motion control running shoes and take a look at where they are similar and how they are different.

Looking at the Brooks Addiction 9 and the New Balance 587 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two motion control running shoes.

Right away we can see that both running shoes have a rollbar or similar device in the midsole to control overpronation. This device is slightly more pronounced in the Brooks Addiction 9 than it is in the New Balance 587, which leads us to believe that the Brooks Addiction 9 is better for controlling pronation.

Looking at the uppers we can see that both running shoes have similarly placed pockets of mesh with synthetic overlays, but that the New Balance 587 seems to have slightly less mesh meaning that it will give you a tighter and more secure fit than the Brooks Addiction 9.

Both running shoes tend to follow the shape of feet with a flat arch when we look at the contour of the outsole. In addition, you can see that both the Brooks Addiction 9 and the New Balance 587 have two flex grooves in the forefoot and one in the heel.

So the amount of flexibility provided in the forefoot area by the Brooks Addiction 9 is expected to be similar to that provided by the New Balance 587. Likewise, both motion control running shoes have a similarly placed crash pad at the back of the heel meaning that again they will tend to absorb shock in the same area if you are a heel striker.

And finally, the durable rubber on the outsoles of both the Brooks Addiction 9 and the New Balance 587 is spread all over the bottoms of the running shoes, so both are expected to give you an equal amount of mileage.

The New Balance W587 weighs approximately 11.9 oz (337 grams), while the Brooks Addiction 9 weighs approximately 10.6 oz (301 grams), so is 1.3 oz (36 grams) lighter than the New Balance W587 when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.

The New Balance 587 and the Brooks Addiction 9 are strikingly similar motion control running shoes, offering similar features and benefits.

If there is one thing that distinguishes them from each other is that the Brooks Addiction 9 is a lightweight and an environmentally friendly running shoe while the New Balance 587 is not.

And a second difference is that the Brooks Addiction 9 may offer slightly better motion control than the New Balance 587.

The suggested retail motion control running shoe price of the New Balance 587 is US $109.99, which is almost US $10 more expensive than the Brooks Addiction 9, which costs around US $100.
