Brooks Addiction 9 vs. 10 review

Learn about the difference between Brooks Addiction 9 and Brooks Addiction 10 to find out which running shoe is the best for you.

In two previous articles I reviewed the Brooks Addiction 9 and the Brooks Addiction 10.

Because the Brooks Addiction 10 is the new version of Brooks Addiction 9, they should not differ as much. Let us take a look at how they differ and how they are similar.

The uppers of the Brooks Addiction 10 has a new look and feel to it compared to that of the Brooks Addiction 9. While the amount of overlays around the midfoot has not changed much, the configuration and placing of the overlays around the heel have changed a bit. However, the Brooks Addiction 10 should still offer you a nice and secure fit on the running shoe platform.

The device that controls pronation in the midsole extends from the heel until past the midfoot in both the Brooks Addiction 9 and 10, so you should not feel any difference when your feet are being stopped from rolling too much inwards.

While the outsole has remained wide and flat in going from the Brooks Addiction 9 to the Brooks Addiction 10, Brooks has added a couple extra openings on the outside of the outsole of the Brooks Addiction 10. This should increase the flexibility of the shoe in this area in addition to improving the transition from the outside to the inside of the foot as well as better localizing and absorbing any shock.

The Brooks Addiction 10 weighs approximately 10.2 oz (289 grams), which is 0.4 oz (12 grams) lighter than the Brooks Addiction 9, which weighs approximately 10.6 oz (301 grams) when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.

If you are looking for a lightweight motion control running shoe, Brooks Addiction 9 fits the bill. But if you want to go even lighter, Brooks Addiction 10 will help you get there.

The Brooks Addiction 10 does not differ much from the Brooks Addiction 9, other than its updated look and more flexible outsole, so either shoe should work equally well for you, although you do need to pay attention to the high wear areas on your shoes.

For example, if the outsides of your shoes tend to be a high wear area, you may want to favor the Brooks Addiction 9, since it may give you more mileage. If on the other hand the insides of your shoes tend to get worn out quickly, either shoe would be suitable.

The suggested price of the Brooks Addiction 10 is US $110, which is US $10 more expensive than the Brooks Addiction 9 when you compare motion control running shoes by price.
