ASICS GT-1000 5 vs. ASICS GT-2000 4 review

ASICS GT-1000 5 is a good entry-level running shoe that provides a good amount of support and stability. ASICS GT-2000 4 provides an overall soft and comfortable ride for long runs.

NEW! ASICS GT-1000 5 vs. ASICS GT-2000 5 and ASICS GT-1000 6 vs. ASICS GT-2000 5 and ASICS GT-1000 6 vs. ASICS GT-2000 6 and ASICS GT-1000 7 vs. ASICS GT-2000 6

The ASICS GT-1000 5 and the ASICS GT-2000 4 are stability running shoes that can be worn by neutral runners to moderate overpronators with the main difference being that the ASICS GT-2000 4 uses more premium materials than the ASICS GT-1000 5.

The uppers of the ASICS GT-1000 5 and the ASICS GT-2000 4 differ somewhat.

While both come with stitched-on overlays on the medial side of the upper, where runners tend to need the most support, the overlays are more plentiful on the ASICS GT-2000 4 and continue to wrap around the back of the shoe instead of mainly being located around the midfoot like in the ASICS GT-1000 5.

Another thing that is different is that the mesh of the ASICS GT-1000 5 has a structure that reduces the need for overlays. The overlays are kind of built into the mesh.

The mesh of the ASICS GT-2000 4 does not have the same structure as that of the ASICS GT-1000 5, but it comes with welded-on overlays instead of stitched-on overlays to keep things together while increasing the amount of comfort.

At the back of the shoes, the ASICS GT-1000 5 comes with normal stitched-on overlays for additional support, while the ASICS GT-2000 4 implements a sturdy external heel counter.

The ASICS GT-1000 5 provides overall a basic amount of support through its upper and has sturdy overlays located in all the right areas.

In addition, it implements lightweight support in other areas such as the toe box to increase the amount of comfort provided.

The ASICS GT-2000 4 provides overall a tad more support than the ASICS GT-1000 5 and also aims at increasing comfort.

Because the ASICS GT-1000 5 can be seen as a basic version of the ASICS GT-2000 4, their midsoles are more or less constructed in the same way, except for the fact that they make use of different types of materials.

The ASICS GT-2000 4 uses more premium materials than the ASICS GT-1000 5.

The midsoles of both running shoes come with GEL cushioning in the heel and in the forefoot.

But whereas the ASICS GT-2000 4 comes with two layers of foam with the one closest to the foot being the softest, the ASICS GT-1000 5 comes with one main layer.

However, the ASICS GT-1000 5 implements two layers of foam under the heel to increase the effectiveness of reducing impact at heel strike.

In terms of cushioning, running shoe lab tests show that the ASICS GT-2000 4 is quite cushy, especially in the forefoot.

However, its amount of heel cushioning lies just above average and is much less than the amount of forefoot cushioning it provides.

The ASICS GT-1000 line of running shoes tend to display a similar cushioning profile as the ASICS GT-2000 line of running shoes with the difference that the amount of heel cushioning might be a bit less in the ASICS GT-1000 running shoes.

But if you are not a heel striker, there is no need to worry about the latter.

Both the ASICS GT-1000 5 and the ASICS GT-2000 4 are meant to provide support to runners, but because the amount provided is not to the extreme, ASICS lists both running shoes as also being suitable for neutral runners and not only for overpronators.

When you look at the medial side of the midsoles, you will see that the areas of pronation control have a similar length and that the midfoot shank that hooks into the midsole also look similar.

The difference lies in the type of support system used: DuoMax in the ASICS GT-1000 5 vs. Dynamic DuoMax in the ASICS GT-2000 4.

But according to running shoe lab tests, there aren't many differences to be noted in terms of the amount of stability and support provided by these two systems.

The midfoot shanks look pretty similar when you look at the outsoles of the two running shoes and so do the rubber compartments.

Both the ASICS GT-1000 5 and the ASICS GT-2000 4 have a similar amount of flex grooves and come with a vertical flex groove that is meant to help you improve your gait.

These similarities in the outsole also make the running shoes not differ much when it comes to flexibility with them being on the stiff side.

The women's version of the ASICS GT-1000 5 weighs approximately 8.8 oz (249 grams), and the ASICS GT-2000 4 for women weighs 9.2 oz (261 grams).

The men's versions of the shoes weigh 10.4 oz (295 grams) and 11.3 oz (320 grams), respectively, with the ASICS GT-1000 5 being the lighter one.

If you are a moderate overpronator who is looking for a supportive running shoe that provides a good amount of cushioning, you could go with either the ASICS GT-1000 5 or the ASICS GT-2000 4.

The main difference between the ASICS GT-2000 4 and the ASICS GT-1000 5 lies in the type of materials used, with the ASICS GT-2000 4 expected to provide you with a more luxurious ride than the ASICS GT-1000 5.

The ASICS GT-1000 5 is a basic trainer that provides everything you need without breaking the bank.
