ADVERTISEMENTS

The uppers of the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 are quite similar in that they do not come with stitched-on overlays.

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 has some stitches in its upper, but these are located at the back of the shoe around the heel counter.

While the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com implements very light and thin no-sew overlays throughout its entire upper to hold the mesh together and provide a bit more support, especially around the midfoot, the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 varies the structure of its mesh to reduce the need for overlays.

So in this respect, the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 might hug your foot better than the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360, but both running shoes should provide a large degree of comfort with very few or no irritation points.

Both the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 come with an external heel counter at the back to increase the amount of support behind the heel.

The biggest difference between the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 and the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 can be found in the midsole, where they differ in construction and materials used.

The ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 uses SoLyte midsole material, which is a bit older and more basic than the newer FluidRide midsole material used in the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18.

FluidRide is also advertised as having bounce back and cushioning properties, while SoLyte is promoted as providing enhanced cushioning and durability.

Both running shoes come with GEL cushioning in their midsoles but implement them differently.

While the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 has a good amount of GEL cushioning in the heel and in the forefoot between two layers of foam, the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 implements its GEL cushioning all around its midsole that consists of one layer of foam.

While this might make the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 look like it provides more cushioning than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18, running shoe lab tests show a more informed picture.

According to running shoe lab tests, the amount of cushioning provided by the two running shoes come very close to each other.

In fact, men might not notice a difference at all, despite the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 providing a tiny bit more forefoot cushioning than the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360, and the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 providing a tiny bit more heel cushioning than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18.

Both running shoes provide an above average amount of cushioning and come with a forefoot that is very cushy.

In the case of women, the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 provides a tiny bit more forefoot cushioning than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18, but the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 provides a bit more heel cushioning than the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360.

The latter is probably due to the fact that the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 for women comes with an extra 3 mm of height in the heel, while the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 does not do that.

Both running shoes are very cushy for women, but the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 might have the advantage of relieving stress off the Achilles tendons of women.

Another difference is that the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 does not separate its forefoot from its rear foot in the outsole like the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 does.

However, both come with a midfoot shank although the midfoot shank of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 consists of two pieces that are not connected to each other, while that of the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 connects the two sides under the midfoot.

But despte the midfoot shank and increased ground contact provided by the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360, it still turns out to be much less stable than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18, according to running shoe lab tests.

The outsoles of the two running shoes also look quite different from each other, but both provide a good amount of separation in their rubber compartments.

The flexibility differs between the genders, with the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 being quite flexible for men but quite stiff for women, and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 is quite stiff for men but somewhat more flexible than the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 for women.

The women's version of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 weighs approximately 9.8 oz (278 grams), and the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 for women weighs 10.8 oz (306 grams).

The men's versions of the shoes weigh 12.1 oz (343 grams) and 13.3 oz (377 grams), respectively, with the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 being the lighter one.

If you are a neutral runner who is looking for a soft and comfortable ride from a running shoe, you could choose either the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 or the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18.

Neutral runners do not require stability and support, but if you are one of those runners who does appreciate such features in a running shoe, you may want to look into the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 before you consider the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360.

Note: The weight of a running shoe depends on the size of the running shoe, so any weights mentioned in this review may differ from the weight of the running shoe you choose to wear. Running shoes of the same size were compared for this review.
