The Saucony Hurricane 16 and the ASICS GT-2000 2 are stability running shoes that can be worn by runners who moderately overpronate .

The uppers of the Saucony Hurricane 16 and the ASICS GT-2000 2 consist of a combination of breathable mesh with synthetic overlays.

Almost all of the overlays on both shoes are stitched-on overlays, meaning that both shoes should provide you with a secure and supportive upper.

The main difference is that the Saucony Hurricane 16 provides a little bit more support than the ASICS GT-2000 2 especially on the medial side of the shoe as well as at the back of the shoe in the form of a support frame.

The Saucony Hurricane 16 has a PowerGrid misole for cushioning, while the ASICS GT-2000 2 uses a FluidRide midsole for cushioning.

Both midsoles provide a base amount of cushioning and energy return. However, the ASICS GT-2000 2 adds more cushioning in the form of GEL cushioning in both the heel and forefoot, and a softer layer of foam closest to the foot.

This means that the ASICS GT-2000 2 will feel more cushy under your entire foot than the Saucony Hurricane 16. But because the midsole of the Saucony Hurricane 16 is 1.4 – 2.1 mm thicker in the forefoot, it should feel more cushy in the forefoot than the ASICS GT-2000 2.

But if you are a heel-striker, the ASICS GT-2000 2 will provide you with more cushioning than the Saucony Hurricane 16.

The Saucony Hurricane 16 delivers stability through a segmented and beveled crash pad under the heel that runs till the midfoot. This should provide you with a soft landing and start slowing down the process of overpronation. And then as your foot starts to roll inward, there is a fairly long medial post that should stop your foot from going to far inward.

The ASICS GT-2000 2 has a similar mechanism where the GEL cushioning in the heel and segmented rubber lugs under the heel should give you a soft landing and initial shock absorption, while firmer foam on the medial side should prevent overpronation.

But while the Saucony Hurricane 16 provides almost full ground contact under the entire shoe, the ASICS GT-2000 2 has a midfoot shank for structural midfoot integrity. The Saucony Hurricane 16 also has a slightly wider platform than the ASICS GT-2000 2. Therefore, one can consider the Saucony Hurricane 16 to be the more stable shoe of the two.

The rubber outsoles differ considerably in construction. However, what they both have in common is that they are well-segmented for shock dissipation and have flex grooves in the forefoot for flexibility.

However, because the Saucony Hurricane 16 has a thicker forefoot and flex grooves that do not promote flexibility as efficiently as in the ASICS GT-2000 2, it turns out to be less flexible than the ASICS GT-2000 2. But stiffness is exactly what heavier runners need and want in their running shoes.

The women's version of the Saucony Hurricane 16 weighs approximately 9.0 oz (255 grams) and the ASICS GT-2000 2 for women weighs 9.2 oz (261 grams). The men's versions of the shoes weigh 11.2 oz (318 grams) and 11.0 oz (312 grams), respectively.

If you are a heavier runner looking for a very stable running shoe that offers lots of support and a very cushy forefoot, then the Saucony Hurricane 16 would be one to look into.

And if you are a somewhat lighter runner who is looking for a stability running shoe that offers lots of cushioning and can be worn by heel-strikers, then the ASICS GT-2000 2 would be one to consider.
