ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 delivers a soft but responsive ride to neutral runners. Saucony Triumph ISO 4 delivers a soft and smooth ride for your long runs.

The Saucony Triumph ISO 4 and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 are neutral cushioning running shoes that are supposed to be comparable and that are suitable for runners who do not need much stability and support.

The Saucony Triumph ISO 4 has overlays mainly around the saddle and the heel. It also has some overlays at the front of the shoe.

The upper of the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 can be pulled tight through the saddle and might be more adjustable than that of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20.

However, the mesh of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 moves along with your foot to provide a more custom fit, so in that respect, it would also give you a secure and somewhat tight fit.

While both running shoes come with extra support behind the heel, the external heel counter of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 seems to be a bit sturdier than the Support Frame around the heel of the Saucony Triumph ISO 4.

All in all, both running shoes provide lightweight support through their uppers, the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 might feel a bit looser so more comfortable in the toe box, and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 provides quite a bit of support at the back of the running shoe.

Both the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 and the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 are meant to deliver a soft ride.

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 does so through the use of two layers of foam in its midsole, with the one closest to the foot being the softer one and the one closest to the ground the more responsive one.

In addition, there is GEL cushioning under the heel and in the forefoot to soften your ride even more.

The Saucony Triumph ISO 4, has one main layer of foam in its midsole but comes with a topsole that provides extra heel-to-toe cushioning.

According to running shoe lab test results, the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 provides more heel cushioning to both men and women.

The amount of heel cushioning is way above average in both running shoes, but the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 provides just a bit more than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20.

Women get extra heel cushioning from the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 through 3 mm of extra height under the heel.

The difference in heel cushioning is very small for women and almost to the max in both running shoes.

The amount of forefoot cushioning delivered by the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 is also above average in both running shoes, but men will get a bit more forefoot cushioning from the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20, while the forefoot of the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 tends to be cushy for women.

The conclusion is that the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 is overall cushier for women and it displays a good balance between the amount of heel and forefoot cushioning for men.

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 can be seen as a cushy running shoe for men, but while women get lots of heel cushioning from it, the amount of forefoot cushioning is just above average.

Neither the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 nor the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 is meant to provide stability and support, because they are meant to be worn by neutral runners, but they do come with elements of stability.

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 has a midfoot shank that does not connect the two sides of the running shoe, but that does provide midfoot integrity and support, and the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 provides a good amount of ground contact, which adds to the stability of the running shoe.

However, according to running shoe lab tests, the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 is much more stable than the Saucony Triumph ISO 4, which is rated as delivering a below average amount of stability.

The rubber outsoles of the two running shoes look quite different from each other, with the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 having a zigzag pattern in the forefoot and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 large rubber compartments.

However, the deep flex grooves run vertically in the outsole of the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 and horizontally in the outsole of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20.

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 also has an extra vertical flex groove that is meant to encourage gait efficiency.

Running shoe lab tests rate both running shoes as being quite stiff for both men and women, but the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 is a tad stiffer than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20, although the differences are not that big.

The women's version of the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 weighs approximately 9.5 oz (270 grams), and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 for women also weighs 8.8 oz (249 grams).

The men's versions of the running shoes weigh 11.3 oz (320 grams) and 10.7 oz (303 grams), respectively, with the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 being the lighter one.

If you are a neutral runner who is looking for a soft ride from a running shoe, you could go with either the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 or the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20.

Women might prefer the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 for getting a soft ride. Men can go either way or choose the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 20 if they want more forefoot cushioning and the Saucony Triumph ISO 4 if they want more heel cushioning.
