The uppers of both the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 and the Saucony Ride 8 consist of a combination of mesh and no-sew overlays with stitches in a few of those overlays.

The main difference is that the Saucony Ride 8 has stitched-on overlays instead of no-sew overlays on its medial side, whereas the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 has only no-sew overlays.

While the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 does not have many overlays running on its toe box so should feel comfortable while still providing enoug strucutre, the Saucony Ride 8 has very light overlays running in the front part of the shoe and really opens up a large part of the forefoot for comfort.

The Saucony Ride 8 wraps the heel better with stitched-on overlays, but when you consider everything, the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 is the one that provides a well-balanced amount of support throughout its entire upper.

The ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 comes with two layers of foam and GEL cushioning in its midsole to provide heel-to-toe cushioning.

The Saucony Ride 8 also provide heel-to-toe cushioning through its midsole and has a crash pad under the heel that connects well to the forefoot to soften your landing and provide a smooth transition to toe-off.

The ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 does not have a crash pad, but shock absorption in its heel is delivered through the GEL cushioning in the heel in addition to the double-layered foam.

However, the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 cannot beat the Saucony Ride 8 when it comes to the amount of forefoot cushioning because the Saucony Ride 8 provides forefoot cushioning that is almost to the max for both men and women.

The ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 also provides lots of forefoot cushioning to men but a little less to women.

In conclusion, the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 is a very cushy running shoe for men and displays a good balance between its amount of forefoot and heel cushioning compared to the Saucony Ride 8, which excels in forefoot cushioning.

For women, the Saucony Ride 8 is the one that is very cushy and provides a good balance between heel and forefoot cushioning. While the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 has a good amount of heel cushioning, its forefoot cushioning is on the average side for women.

Another difference between the midsoles of the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 and the Saucony Ride 8 is that the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 has a midfoot shank that consists of two pieces that are not connected but that provide some support under the midfoot without making any corrections to your stride. However, there is a vertical flex groove that helps with gait efficiency.

The Saucony Ride 8 does not have a midfoot shank but rather provides full ground contact under the midfoot. This helps the Saucony Ride 8 deliver a smoother ride than the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17.

The outsole of the Saucony Ride 8 is also more segmented with smaller rubber pods and a good amount of flex grooves. The ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 has large rubber compartments that should be quite durable.

In terms of flexibility, both running shoes turn out to be quite flexible for women with the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 being just a little more flexible than the Saucony Ride 8 for women.

For men, the flexibility comes close to each other in both running shoes, but the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 turns out to be on the stiff side for men, and the Saucony Ride 8 displays a bit more flexibility than the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17.

The women's version of the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 17 weighs approximately 9.3 oz (264 grams) and the Saucony Ride 8 for women weighs 8.2 oz (232 grams).
