NEW! Brooks Glycerin 14 vs. ASICS GEL-Nimbus 19 and Brooks Glycerin 15 vs. ASICS GEL-Nimbus 19

The Brooks Glycerin 14 and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 are at the top end of the neutral cushioning running shoe category for both ASICS and Brooks, so they should stack up well against each other.

ADVERTISEMENTS

The uppers of the Brooks Glycerin 14 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 are similar in that they both have smaller and thinner no-sew overlays that are spread out over the entire upper.

The main difference is that 3D Print technology has been used to get the overlays on the Brooks Glycerin 14.

However, both the FluidFit overlays on the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 The preceding link takes you to Amazon.com and the 3D Stretch Print overlays on the Brooks Glycerin 14 provide some degree of stretching to provide you with a more custom fit.

The biggest differences between ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 and the Brooks Glycerin 14 can be found around the midfoot and at the back of the shoes.

The Brooks Glycerin 14 comes with sturdy and broad overlays that wrap the midfoot to provide a good amount of support there. Such overlays are missing on the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 although it provides quite a bit of no-sew overlays around the midfoot.

The second difference is that the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 comes with a sturdy external heel counter to provide a good amount of support behind the heel, whereas the Brooks Glycerin 14 just provides overlays for external support.

All in all, both the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 and the Brooks Glycerin 14 provide enough support through their uppers to neutral runners although the Brooks Glycerin 14 is likely to provide a more secure fit than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18.

Both the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 and the Brooks Glycerin 14 are meant to provide runners with a plush ride.

The Brooks Glycerin 14 does so through the use of a certain type of cushioning, while the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 does so through the use of layering and GEL cushioning.

According to running shoe lab tests, both the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 and the Brooks Glycerin 14 are quite cushy for women with some minor differences.

While the Brooks Glycerin 14 is more cushy than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 in the forefoot, the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 is more cushy than the Brooks Glycerin 14 in the heel, but the differences are minimal.

The more cushy heel of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 is probably due to the fact that the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 comes with an extra 3 mm of height in its heel to take stress off the Achilles tendons of women.

The men's version of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 does not come with this feature, and this is noticeable in running shoe lab tests, which show that the Brooks Glycerin 14 is overall very cushy and more cushy than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 in both the heel and the forefoot despite the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 having a very cushy forefoot.

The amount of cushioning in the heel of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 is slightly above average but way below the amount offered by the Brooks Glycerin 14 to men.

Another difference between the midsoles of the Brooks Glycerin 14 and the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 is that the Brooks Glycerin 14 provides a bit more ground contact than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18.

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 comes with a midfoot shank that has been split into two pieces under the midfoot. While this midfoot shank does not provide any type of correction, it does increase the stability of the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 a bit.

However, running shoe lab tests rate the Brooks Glycerin 14 as providing slightly above average stability and a small bit more stability than the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 despite neither of the two being stability running shoes.

The Brooks Glycerin 14 also comes with features to make your ride smoother by providing a good amount of separation in its outsole and separate zones to distribute the pressure under your foot.

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 also displays a good amount of separation in its outsole, but it has larger slabs of rubber than the Brooks Glycerin 14 so is overall less separated than the Brooks Glycerin 14.

The large amount of separation may also help the Brooks Glycerin 14 be more flexible. Running shoe lab tests show that the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 is quite stiff for men and somewhat more flexible for women, but that the Brooks Glycerin 14 is very flexible for both genders.

The women's version of the Brooks Glycerin 14 weighs approximately 8.9 oz (252 grams), while the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 for women weighs 9.8 oz (278 grams).

The men's version of the Brooks Glycerin 14 weighs about 10.7 oz (303 grams), while the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 for men weighs 12.1 oz (343 grams).

If you are a neutral runner who is looking for a very plush ride, you could get that from either the Brooks Glycerin 14 or the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18.

The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 18 provides a good amount of protection from the road but may feel heavier on your feet than the Brooks Glycerin 14.

The Brooks Glycerin 14 is an overall very plush running shoe that provides a smooth ride, a secure fit, and that is quite flexible.
