Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 delivers tons of stability and support with a smooth ride. ASICS GT-2000 5 is supportive and provides enough cushioning for long runs.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 and the ASICS GT-2000 5 fall in the same category of stability running shoes for runners who overpronate, with the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 falling at the higher end of the category.

The difference is that the ASICS GT-2000 5 comes with additional stitches in the overlays around the heel.

Therefore, one can expect to get much more support around the heel and at the back of the ASICS GT-2000 5 than one would get from the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17.

However, the amount of support around the midfoot is about the same although the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 displays a more uniform pull from back to front.

Both have overlays running over the bunion window, but the bunion window of the ASICS GT-2000 5 is more unrestricted than that of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17.

Overall, both running shoes should be able to keep your foot on the platform, but the ASICS GT-2000 5 provides more support at the back and has a forefoot that is a bit more open than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 so might feel a bit more comfortable.

The midsoles of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 and the ASICS GT-2000 5 are quite different in construction.

The ASICS GT-2000 5 consists of two layers of foam with GEL cushioning between those two layers in the heel and in the forefoot.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17, on the other hand, comes with one main layer that has a full-length crash pad on the lateral side and a long post on the medial side.

The ASICS GT-2000 5 also comes with a support system on the medial side that helps stop the feet of overpronators from rolling too far inward. This support system includes a midfoot shank that helps support the midfoot.

However, because the medial post of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 goes higher and covers a pretty wide area, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 is generally considered to be the more stable running shoe.

This statement is backed by data from running shoe lab tests, which show that the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 provides almost a maximum amount of stability, while the ASICS GT-2000 5 falls just a notch below that.

This stability is reinforced by the full-length crash pad on the lateral side.

On the other hand, historically, the ASICS GT-2000 has been a running shoe that provides a good amount of cushioning in both the heel and the forefoot and more so than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS because the Brooks Adrenaline GTS offers cushioning that is not too soft or too firm.

However, in the case of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17, the heel might feel a bit firm to both men and women, because the amount of cushioning offered by the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 lies below average, according to running shoe lab tests.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 provides a good amount of forefoot cushioning, though.

The ASICS GT-2000 5 provides a good amount of forefoot and heel cushioning to women and more so than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 for women.

However, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 for men provides just a tiny bit more forefoot cushioning than the ASICS GT-2000 5, and both running shoes provide a below average amount of heel cushioning that could feel a bit firm to some male runners.

The outsoles of the two running shoes differ too in construction and layout, with the ASICS GT-2000 5 having large slabs of rubber and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 having small rubber pods.

Small rubber pods help dissipate shock better and help make the running shoe feel more flexible.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 also provides more ground contact than the ASICS GT-2000 5. This ground contact should help the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 deliver smoother heel-to-toe transitions than the ASICS GT-2000 5.

According to running shoe lab tests, the flexibility of the two running shoes come close to each other with both running shoes providing a below average amount of flexibility so are stiff but not too stiff. Women get a bit more flexibility than men, though.

The women's version of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 weighs approximately 8.9 oz (252 grams), while the ASICS GT-2000 5 for women also weighs approximately 9.8 oz (278 grams).

The men's version of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 weighs about 10.9 oz (309 grams), and the ASICS GT-2000 5 for men weighs 11.2 oz (318 grams).

If you are a moderate overpronator who is looking for a soft and comfortable ride from a running shoe, the ASICS GT-2000 5 might be a good candidate.

However, if you know that you will be needing a lot of stabilty and support, you may want to look into the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 first.
