In two previous articles I reviewed the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 and New Balance WR1123 motion control running shoes for women.

The New Balance WR1123 is a New Balance running shoe that is in a league of its own and different from all other motion control running shoes, but let us still have a look at how it compares against the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6.

Looking at the New Balance WR1123 and ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two maximum stability running shoes.

The first major difference between the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 and the New Balance WR1123 are the outsoles. The outsole of the New Balance WR1123 is broad and flat, suitable for people who have flat feet, while the outsole of the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 is broad and follows the natural curve of normal feet. Both shoes should provide you with a stable platform to run on.

The New Balance WR1123 has more flex grooves in the forefoot area than the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6, so it might feel a bit more flexible on your feet in that area. But the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 has a vertical flex groove, called Guidance Line, which runs from the heel all the way to the forefoot, and helps you develop a more efficient stride. This line is absent from the New Balance WR1123.

So all in all, while you might get a bit more flexibility from the New Balance WR1123, you should get a better run out of the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6. The New Balance WR1123 is better suited as a gym shoe or an everyday walking shoe, rather than a running shoe.

Moving onto the midsoles now, we can see that both shoes have a motion control device in their midsoles. However, the Rollbar in the New Balance WR1123 is placed slightly more towards the heel than that of the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6, but both running shoes should provide you with an optimum amount of support and stability.

The ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 has what is called Soft Top Duomax on top of its midsole. This extra foam serves as a pillow to give you more cushioning and comfort. Such foam is absent from the New Balance WR 1123. But this does not mean that the New Balance WR1123 does not provide you with an adequate amount of cushioning, because it does.

Where the New Balance WR1123 excels is probably in the fit it provides you around the midfoot. It has a good amount of overlays in that area, which will keep your foot securely on the platform. While the overlays on the New Balance WR1123 run similar to those on the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6, the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 places a bit more stress on the upper moving along with your feet and making your feet feel comfortable, rather than strapping your feet down on the platform.

Where the women's running shoes are concerned, the New Balance WR1123 weighs approximately 329 grams (11.6 oz), while the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 weighs 317 grams (11.2 oz), which makes it 12 grams (0.4 oz) lighter than the New Balance WR1123 when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.

If you're looking for a flexible motion control running shoe that is suitable to walk in or as a comfortable everyday shoe, the New Balance WR1123 might be the running shoe to go with.

If you're looking for a motion control running shoe that provides you with a comfortable ride, and helps increase the efficiency of your gait cycle, the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 might be the one to go with.

The New Balance WR1123 comes at a suggested retail price of US $147.99, while the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 is almost $28 cheaper at US $120 when you compare motion control running shoes by price.
