ASICS GEL Evolution 6 vs. Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 review

Learn about the difference between ASICS GEL Evolution 6 and Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 through this review, and find the cheapest price by comparing these two motion control running shoes.

In two previous articles I reviewed the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 motion control running shoes for women.

The ASICS GEL Evolution 6 is the flagship motion control running shoe from ASICS, while the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 is comparable to the ASICS GEL Foundation 9, which is the second best motion control running shoe from ASICS.

If we look at the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 and Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 side-by-side, we can get a better idea of how these two motion control running shoes compare against each other.

At first glance, the upper of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 seems to consist of slightly more mesh than the upper of the ASICS GEL Evolution 6. The mesh on the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 also seems to be a bit more airy.

So you can expect the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 to provide you with quite a loose upper fit. However, the strategically placed overlays should keep your feet locked down on the platform.

While the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 has slightly more overlays than the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10, so should provide you with a more secure fit, the composition of the overlays, which is a soft suede, should help ease tension off your feet and still provide you with a comfortable fit.

Both the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 and Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 have a device in the midsole to control pronation. And this device goes slightly past the midfoot on both running shoes. The only difference is the technology used: In the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10, it is called a Wave plate, and in the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 it is called DuoMax.

But what the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 has that the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 does not have is an extra and softer layer on top of the midsole, which adds tremendously to the soft feel of the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 on your feet.

In addition, ASICS has added 3 mm more material in the midsole of the heel (in the women's version of the ASICS GEL Evolution 6) to relieve tension off the Achilles tendon. This addition of extra height is missing from the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10.

And last, but not least, there are several differences to be noted between the outsoles of both running shoes. For starters, the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 has what is called Guidance Line that helps you run with a more efficient stride. This Guidance Line, while not present on the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10, can somewhat be replaced by the segmentation on the outsole.

The outsole of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 consists largely of a lateral and inner part both in the heel and in the forefoot. This should make the running shoe flexible when transitioning from the outsides of your feet to the insides.

However, because the forefoot and the heel are not separate like on the ASICS GEL Evolution 6, you may not experience a ride that is as smooth as the one you would get from the ASICS GEL Evolution 6. But the added flexibility you should get in the forefoot area of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 should make up a bit for that.

Mizuno is known for making lightweight running shoes, and the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 does not disappoint where its weight is concerned. The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 weighs approximately 9.7 oz (275 grams), which is 1.5 oz (42 grams) lighter than the 11.2 oz (317 grams) of the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.

If you are looking for a lightweight motion control running shoe that provides good stability and a somewhat airy and loose fit, then the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 might be the running shoe to go with.

If on the other hand you do not mind the weight of your running shoes, but rather prefer a running shoe that offers you a secure fit, good stability, and a smooth and soft ride, then the ASICS GEL Evolution 6 might be worth considering.

The ASICS GEL Evolution 6 retails for US $120 while the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 10 costs US $110, which is $10 cheaper when you compare motion control running shoes by price.
