ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 vs. ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 review

Learn about the difference between ASICS GEL Evolution 6 and ASICS GEL Foundation 9 in this review, and find the cheapest price on these two motion control running shoes.

In two previous articles I wrote about the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 and ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 motion control running shoes for women.

ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 is a flagship ASICS motion control running shoe, so is expected to be superior to the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 (the newest model of which is the ASICS GEL-Foundation 10).

However, since both running shoes are made by the same running shoe manufacturer, they are expected to be similar where tooling, design, and materials used are concerned.

Looking at the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 and ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 side-by-side gives a good comparison of the two motion control running shoes.

While there aren't any huge differences to be noted between the uppers of the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 and the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9, there are some subtle differences that you may notice where fit is concerned.

Both running shoes consist of a breathable mesh upper, but the overlays in the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 consist of a softer material, which bends and moves along better with your feet than that on the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9.

Another key difference in overlays is the placement of the ASICS logo. This logo runs from mid-lace area to the midfoot and from between the forefoot and midfoot to the back of the heels on the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6, while it runs from the mid-lace area to the midfoot and from between the forefoot and the midfoot to the medial collar area on the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9. What this means is that the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 might give you a tighter fit and feel from front to back.

While the midsoles of both running shoes consist of the DuoMax Support System that helps stabilize your runs and control pronation, the women's version of the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 has an additional soft top DuoMax layer and an addition 3 mm of midsole material to help relieve Achilles tension, which the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 does not provide. So the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 is expected to provide you with a higher degree of comfort.

In addition, the midsole of the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 has 5 mm more height on the medial side compared to the ASICS GEL-Evolution 5, which means that the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 should give you slightly more support than the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9.

Both the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 and ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 have GEL cushioning in the forefoot and rearfoot, so there are no big differences there between the two sneakers.

The outsoles of the two athletic shoes differ a great deal in that ASICS has moved away from the structure of the older ASICS running shoe models and added Guidance Line to the outsole. Guidance Line is a vertical flex groove that runs from the heel to the forefoot and is intended to help you generate a more effective gait cycle. The ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 has Guidance Line, while the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 does not.

The amount and placement of crash pads in the heel and vertical flex grooves in the forefoot are similar in both running shoes, so there are no big differences to be noted where flexibility and shock absorption are concerned.

Where the women's running shoes are concerned, the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 weighs approximately 303 grams (10.7 oz), while the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 weighs 317 grams (11.2 oz), which makes it 14 grams (0.5 oz) heavier when you compare motion control running shoes by weight.

If you are looking for a lightweight ASICS running shoe that provides motion control and which has all of the features a good running shoe should have such as cushioning, stability, and a secure fit, then the ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 might be the running shoe for you.

If you do not mind a few extra grams on your running shoes, but rather prefer to get maximum support, stability, and great comfort, then the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 might suit you well.

The ASICS GEL-Foundation 9 comes at a suggested retail price of US $100 while the ASICS GEL-Evolution 6 is $20 more expensive at US $120 when you compare motion control running shoes by price.
